Legalised Robbery.
The fiscal Authorities and the Plundering of the Jews in Hessen 1933 - 1945.
The exhibition „Legalised Robbery. The Fiscal Authorities and the Plundering of the Jews in Hessen 1933 – 1945” can be seen up to 10 November 2013.
It deals with the laws and regulations, which, from 1933, were targeted at the plundering of the Jewish citizens. It describes the officials of the revenue authorities who implemented the laws in cooperation with other departments and institutions and tells of those who were the victims of these measures. It shows how the „German Reich”, through the Reichsfluchtsteuer (Tax on Flight for the Reich) numerous special levies and, finally, through the complete seizure of wealth, cashed in on both on who were driven to emigrate, and those who remained, either because they did not have enough money to migrate or because, despite everything , they did not want to leave their homeland. Everywhere, following the deportations, ownership changed at publicly announced auctions of „Jewish property” - table linen, furniture, toys, crockery, food, etc. As in all the previous locations, the exhibition is provided with a new, local focus for the presentation in Dreieich.
The exhibition „Legalised Robbery” is supported by the Fritz Bauer Institute and Hessischer Rundfunk (Hessian Broadcasting Corporation) and sponsored by the Sparkassen-Kulturstiftung Hessen-Thüringen (Sparkasse Cultural Foundation of Hesse- Thuringia), Stiftung der Sparkasse Langen-Seligenstadt (Langen Seligenstadt Sparkasse Foundation), the Hessisches Ministerium für Wissenschaft und Kunst (Hessian MInistery for Science and Art), and the Ministery of Finance of the state of Hesse.
